The Diamondbacks and Cubs begin the second half of the baseball season with an afternoon game at Wrigley Field.
Ketel Marte, right, hit 19 doubles and 19 homers for the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first half of the season. Two teams that entered the All-Star break playing pretty well will meet on Friday afternoon as the second half of the Major League Baseball season gets underway.
Arizona, last year’s National League champs, spent most of the first half trying to gain some momentum and found itself a season-worst seven games under .500 on May 31. But the D-backs have begun to gather momentum over the past month and a half. As for the Cubs, they went 8-3 over the final 11 games before the break and feel like they are also in contention for a playoff spot, only 3 1/2 games out of a playoff spot.
