The Arlington Heights School District 25 Board of Education voted to fire the nurse at the center of a case the district has called a “misuse” of prescription medications.
The board voted 6-0 at a special meeting Wednesday night to fire Tory Eitz, who had been the nurse at Westgate Elementary School, one of nine schools in District 25. The school enrolls nearly 600 students in grades K to 5. Eitz had been on leave since the district announced April 22 that an investigation had begun into “the potential misuse of prescription medication intended for specific student use,” school officials stated in a news release. The probe came after a student at Westgate Elementary School in the northwest suburb was found to have fentanyl in their system, according to authorities.
Arlington Heights police previously confirmed that at least nine students were impacted by the nurse’s alleged actions. In addition to disciplinary action taken against Eitz, attorneys for several of the students involved called for Westgate Principal Ann Buch to also be placed on leave.District officials said they continue to cooperate with authorities, including the police, Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.Police: Videos show beating of 13-year-old girl.
