The former Orchard captain helped his native Cullyhanna win an All-Ireland Intermediate club title at the start of the year and hailed the impact of Conleith Gilligan who joined the Armagh management team in 2024
Ciaran McKeever burst onto the inter-county scene a year too late to be involved in Armagh’s historic All-Ireland victory of 2002, but he is hoping to secure a memorable double as a coach in 2024.
“In January, six months ago, Cullyhanna got to the All-Ireland Intermediate final. We wanted the people of Cullyhanna to enjoy it and go mad and it’s the same here,” said McKeever.“You want to enjoy it yourself too, you need to enjoy these things that you sacrifice a lot for. Duffy, Nugent and McQullian have all made telling impacts off the bench this season with Kieran McGeeney’s men boasting, arguably, the strongest panel of players in the country.
“Back in the noughties our in-house games were competitive but I think the football is completely different,” said McKeever. “We have a policy that you’re not up to scratch, you can be substituted within training and someone else will take your spot. That has kept an edge on the whole squad.”
