Armed police swarmed a residential street in East Kilbride following reports of a group of men in balaclavas brandishing axes. Emergency services responded to Teal Crescent in the South Lanarkshire town shortly after 1:15 pm on Saturday after receiving an alarm. Officers were dispatched to reports of a man with a bladed weapon who was observed entering a car on the street before colliding with another vehicle.
An eyewitness account suggests a car chase involving three vehicles culminated in a cul-de-sac before a group of men clad in balaclavas and armed with axes pursued a single car through the area, allegedly smashing its rear windows. The eyewitness, who was walking their dog during the incident, recounted to Glasgow Live: 'When the driver realized it was a dead end, he drove up a path, knocking down a fence and driving over people's gardens. Men in balaclavas and carrying axes then exited a vehicle and chased the guy in the car.' Police Scotland confirmed that the individual involved in the car collision fled the scene alongside the other occupants of the vehicle. Investigations are currently underway to locate those involved. A spokesperson for Police Scotland stated: “Around 1.15pm on Saturday, 15 February, 2025, we received a report of a man seen with what appeared to be a bladed weapon, getting into a car on Teal Crescent, East Kilbride. His vehicle was involved in a crash with another car on Teal Crescent. He made off along with the other occupants of the car. Enquiries are ongoing to trace them and establish the circumstances. No one was injured.
