The Army is on track to hit its recruiting goal this fiscal year after back-to-back years of only pulling in around 75% of the soldiers it needed.

FILE - Army soldiers hosted a recruitment booth in Hutchinson, Kansas, Sept. 9, 2023. The soldiers hosted the booth at the Kansas State Fairgrounds to interact with the public and inform about enlistment opportunities and benefits. Through April, with five months to go in the fiscal year, the Army is sitting at 99% of its recruiting goal. The Navy and Air Force both fell short of their targets last year.

Stitt said they’re “moving away from a borrowed military manpower” to fill their recruiter ranks, such as putting an infantry sergeant on a temporary assignment as a recruiter. Manning said despite the Army’s 99% achievement on its lowered recruiting goal this year, we might not see the impacts of some of these initiatives until four or five years down the line.
