A man told police he stole a Las Vegas Fire Department ambulance and went on a 40-minute joy ride last week 'to escape the danger he was in.'
Zachary Bodine is the man arrested for allegedly stealing a Las Vegas fire department ambulance. and went on a 40-minute joy ride last week "to escape the danger he was in," according to an arrest report.
In an arrest report, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police wrote that a two-person medical unit with Las Vegas Fire & Rescue responded just after 6 a.m. to a report of a man suffering breathing problems near Fremont Street and Las Vegas Boulevard. Police wrote that the driver ran red lights and drove against traffic directions, endangering hundreds of other drivers. He took sharp turns that caused the ambulance to sway and almost fall onto its side.
Bodine was taken into custody after the crash. He later told detectives that "he stole the ambulance to escape the danger he was in at the downtown area," the report states. He claimed he lost the keys to his own car and admitted to driving the ambulance erratically. He ended up writing an apology letter to the person he crashed into.
