Arsenal have denied Kieran Tierney's request to join Celtic in January, opting to keep him in their squad for the remainder of the season. The Scotland international is set to return to Parkhead on a free transfer in the summer but Arsenal have made it clear that he will remain part of their title challenge.
Arsenal have thwarted Kieran Tierney 's hopes of a January transfer back to Celtic . The Scotland full-back, whose contract at the Emirates Stadium expires in the summer, was expected to reunite with the Bhoys after six years in north London. Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers had expressed his desire to finalize the deal this month, given Tierney's limited playing time under Mikel Arteta. Rodgers had stated that while a summer move was confirmed, an earlier transfer would be welcomed if possible.
However, Arsenal have made it clear that Tierney will remain part of their squad for the remainder of the season, as they aim to challenge Liverpool for the Premier League title. The Gunners are also anticipating a busy schedule in the Champions League knockout stages. Tierney, who suffered a hamstring injury during Euro 2024 qualifiers, missed the first four months of the season. During his absence, Riccardo Calafiori secured a regular spot at left-back, while young talent Myles Lewis-Skelly also emerged as a contender. Oleksandr Zinchenko provides another option at left-back, although the Ukrainian international has also been linked with a January departure. Tierney has managed just 16 minutes of Premier League action since his return to fitness, with his only start this season coming in the Carabao Cup quarter-final win against Crystal Palace in December. After winning four Scottish titles with Celtic before his £25 million move to Arsenal in 2019, Tierney spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Real Sociedad.
