Tensions have risen in the occupied West Bank where at least 27 Palestinians have been killed since Saturday
Mourners for Palestinians killed when Israeli soldiers opened fire in the village of Kasra, in Nablus in the West Bank . Restaurants are closed. Gift shops are empty. Tourists have cancelled their flights. And schools are off. But for now – children do not play in the streets.is in a spiralling cycle of violence – and this divided city, home to some of the holiest sites in Judaism, Islam and Christianity, seems to hang in wait for what happens next.
Not far from the edge of this ancient city lies the occupied West Bank – where tensions have risen even further in recent days. Some of these killings have been noticeably brutal. On Thursday, two men were killed in the occupied West Bank by Israeli settlers while attending a funeral for several Palestinians shot a day earlier by Israeli forces and settlers in the village of Qusra, near the northern city of Nablus. This violence comes amidst a push from the Israeli army to arm citizens with thousands of rifles, in order to “bolster” defences.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry, which has repeatedly raised the danger of increased assaults on Palestinians by armed Jewish settlers, warned against supplying settlers in the West Bank with more arms, describing it as a provocation that would “blow things up in the West Bank”.
