Hamas has issued a revised ceasefire proposal demanding the release of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for Israeli hostages. Meanwhile, Israel has rejected claims from Palestinian officials that its forces killed dozens of people who were waiting for aid.

The first reaction has come in to the comments made by the majority leader of the US Senate, Chuck Schumer.

He continued:"We fully respect his right to make those remarks and to decide for himself what he's going to say on the senate floor. He obviously feels strongly about this. We understand and respect that. His office separately said plans for an Israeli military operation in Rafah have been approved, with the military preparing to evacuate the population there.Satellite images show the construction of a temporary jetty in Gaza where a ship carrying hundreds of tonnes of aid will hopefully dock today.
