Niall Barry - who denies organising the shooting which claimed Ashley Dale's life - today took the stand at Liverpool Crown Court
One of the men accused of murdering Ashley Dale in Liverpool said he got involved in conversations about buying sub-machine guns because he was "young and stupid" and "trying to act hard".
The messages, sent in early 2020, were recovered by police after the French authorities hacked EncroChat servers and downloaded data containing messages sent between different phones. The jury has heard that on April 10, 2020, Barry was in contact with the handle 'FrostySocks', who Barry told: “Get that 38 off Gibbs. We float with that. My other things are quite far dodgy on the road that’s local. Just get that Skorp. And we go."
Barry confirmed that 'Skorp' was a reference to a Skorpion sub-machine gun. Mr Reiz asked: “Did you have access to a Skorpion in April 2020?". The jury heard Barry replied asking for prices and said: 'Skorp and tech and grand power will have defo’. Mr Reiz asked: "Were you planning on buying those firearms?"
