Five men are currently standing trial accused of 28-year-old council worker's murder

A man accused of being the 'driver' for a gunman who shot dead a young woman told a court he was watching an Anthony Joshua fight in his pyjamas at the time of the alleged murder. Ashley Dale, 28, died after being shot in the abdomen and collapsing in her back yard in Liverpool shortly after midnight on August 21 last year.

Mr Wright continued: "Were you involved in any way in the killing of Ashley Dale?" Peers said: "Most definitely not." Mr Wright said: "At the time the home of Ashley Dale was entered by Mr Witham and she was shot, what were you doing?" He replied: "I was at home watching the Usyk fight with me dad. Mr Wright: "Had there been any previous dispute involving you with and Lee Harrison?" Peers: "No, never had any disputes with Lee. Always got on, I’ve known him for time like, never been any trouble, ever."

He reported that he had been about to leave for home on foot when Witham offered him a lift. They were then said to have left in a Hyundai i30N Performance, the car used in the shooting. Peers stated that he "chilled out" with his mum in her bedroom "for a minute", then "slapped his pyjamas on" and went back downstairs to watch the fight. When asked if he had "caught the start of the fight", he said: "I just missed it I think, from the start, as I’ve just got in.

He and Witham were then seen walking back into the flat on Pilch Lane at 1.25am. The KC asked: "How did it come about that you were in company with Mr Witham?" Peers stated that he "grabbed a pack of Lambert and Butler off the side" in his mum’s room for Zeisz before leaving. He said of Witham's arrival: "I said why are you on foot, where’s the car?"I just said come 'ed, let's walk. I didn’t suspect nothing had happened.

Mr Greaney said: "The men who had damaged the car were not deterred. Fifty minutes later, at about 12.30am, they returned.
