Council worker was shot dead aged 28 at her home on Leinster Road in Old Swan
Ashley Dale's voice was heard in court during the trial into her fatal shooting and allegedly revealed the "motive for the attack".
The KC said that the texts and voice recordings recovered from her iPhone shed light on this incident and other events - also concerning Niall Barry, known as "Branch" - in the weeks before she was shot and "in short, explain the motive for the attack". In a message sent to her friend Sophie on June 27, the day after Glastonbury ended, she reported that "Zest" - a nickname of Zeisz's - "got smacked Saturday and again last night by all Joker and that".
The jury were the told of a series of messages between Ashley and Sophie on July 3, in which the latter said: "Branch is out for Lee, isn’t he? There’s been murder?" "He just disappeared for years and now someone’s obviously rattled his cage. It’s scary, cos he’s on some pure rampage." Ms Dale was heard to say: "I can’t even be a***d with it all to be honest. I have just said I can’t be a***d with anyone by ours."Lee’s saying he’s not going the wake. He’s only going the crem and getting off."
"You were looking bad already and now you look even worse. He said he would have done something if he seen him coming out the house. The jury heard that, at around 11.40pm on August 20 2022, two men approached Ashley’s white Volkswagen T-Roc car - which was parked outside the house - and slashed its tyres, causing the alarm to sound, in an effort to "lure" the occupants out. But it is thought that she believed the alarm had been set off by heavy rain and did not leave her house.
