The whole tooth, and nothing but the tooth
Are you kidding? Have you seen what they charge? Unless your father bequeathed you a hereditary NHS spot, even the briefest visit is to entertain root canal surgery on your bank account. Damn right you should be afraid. Be very afraid. A basic visit is manageable for most, I suppose, but once they’ve found something that needs work, well then the serious excavation begins. You need a filling.
My childhood experiences left me determined to swerve the tooth-yankers and ivory carpenters. I was particularly scarred by numerous visits to an orthodontist who pulled out healthy teeth with all the compassion of an old-style headmistress just to stop my smile looking like David Bowie’s, while her little dog sat yawning at my howls from a nearby basket. For years after, I swerved appointments.
