Must you wait until everyone is seated and served to begin eating dinner? : Ask Yad has the answer
I recently attended a dinner party and noticed that some guests started to eat before everyone else had been served. I have seen this happen at restaurants as well when there is a group of people and the food doesn’t all come out at once.
In a restaurant, I would say that it is OK to ask the others at your table if they mind if you start eating your dish, or if your meal is taking longer, take it upon yourself to say, “Please, don’t wait for my food to arrive, go ahead and enjoy your meal.” After all, it isn’t their fault your order didn’t arrive at the same time.
