Emboldened by the HTS lighting advance, Syrian rebel groups seize ground across the Syria as the world prepares for Assad's fallSyrian rebel force Hayat Tahrir al-Sham say their lightning advance through Aleppo and Hama has now reached the outskirts of the city of Homs in central Syria, as rebels in the south of the country also make major gains.
Anti-regime armed groups advancing in Syria’s strategically important province of Homs, the gateway to the capital Damascus, reach the inner parts of the city center in Homs, Syria. Syrian state media reported the army was carrying out an operation in the Homs countryside with support from Syrian and Russian air forces, artillery, missiles and armoured vehicles.If the Sunni Muslim rebels capture Homs, they would cut off Damascus from the coast, a stronghold of Assad’s minority Alawite sect and where his Russian allies have a naval base and air base in Latakia and Tartus.
“We confirm that your citizens will enjoy full rights of security and protection, as well as your diplomatic missions,” HTS said in a statement which also called for the establishment of diplomatic relations with both countries. Piling on the pressure, two Syrian army sources said the alliance known as the Syrian Democratic Forces had swept through the Albu Kamal border crossing with Iraq in Syria’s eastern border.
Assad regained control of most of Syria after key allies – Russia, Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah group – came to his rescue.
