The assassination of bikie boss Nick Martin happened just months after he was asked to step aside over fears he was stealing club money to fund a lavish home renovation, a Perth court has heard.

Perth Magistrates Court has been told bikie boss Nick Martin was asked to step aside after members raised concerns he used club money to fund his home renovations before his death. The allegations were made by Aaron Karl Labrook , who is on trial for other matters in the Perth Magistrates Court.

Mr Labrook said in the 10 months preceding Mr Martin's murder, members had been raising concerns about where their club membership fees, costing $100 a week, were going."Members started coming to me … wondering where the dues were going."Mr Labrook said he asked Mr Martin to step down two or three months before he was killed because the club was in "disarray".

Mr Labrook told the court he and other bikies had to use cash because police had contacted banks and had their accounts closed.
