Assistance dogs and their handlers are welcome at the Adelaide Zoo for the first time following walking tests to record the reactions of dogs and zoo residents.
Behavioural footage was collected to inform a traffic-light systemIn a pioneering program, Zoos SA has partnered with See Differently, formerly Royal Society for the Blind, to create a zone map that guides the organisation's accredited assistance dogs through Adelaide Zoo.
Up to 100 pieces of behavioural footage collected were used to inform a traffic-light system for areas in the zoo where assistance dogs could go. "We have to make sure that we customised it for Adelaide Zoo, which is why we've come up with these zones."
