A secret shortlist of candidates to replace Governor Philip Lowe at the Reserve Bank has been locked in, but government ministers are refusing to speculate.

What I can say is all the names you are speculating on are outstanding candidates.Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was tight-lipped about Ms Wilkinson's future in the role, but said she is doing a “fantastic” job currently at the Department of Finance. “There are a range of people who will be under consideration, including of course the Governor himself of the Reserve Bank.
He has faced intense scrutiny over past comments he made and the successive cash rate hikes which have caused hardship for many households.Australia has since seen 12 rate rises, increasing the cash rate from 0.1 per cent to the current 4.10 per cent.
