An Aston Martin driver and his accomplice staged a crash to defraud insurers of over £100,000. Both men were jailed for 18 months.
An Aston Martin driver who staged an elaborate ' crash for cash ' scam has been jailed for 18 months after he came close to conning insurers out of £100k. Edwin White, 65, deliberately put on the spectacle with co-conspirator Nicholas Ralph, 67, as the pair drove into each other on May 4 2018. They were sentenced at Gloucester Crown Court this month with a third individual - Clive Moore, 51 - also being punished after he claimed he had witnessed the collision.
It comes as the Peugeot 208 driven by Ralph had crashed into White's Aston Martin DB9 putting the two crooks 'at risk of physical harm in the pursuit of insurance money'. It was then that White leapt into action and contacted his insurer, DLG, claiming the Peugeot had hit a pothole before swerving and colliding with his Aston Martin. He stated he had paid £59,995 for the Aston Martin and bought it in a very good condition though doubts were soon raised by insurers. A few hours later Ralph then took his turn to contact his insurer, LV=, claiming insurance for his Peugeot. The pair alleged they did not know each other and LV=settled Ralph's claim for £6,300. Despite White's claim about the Aston Martin having been in a good condition when bought, examinations commissioned by the insurers showed that the inside was in poor condition. The insurers also found the garage where White purchased the Aston Martin did not routinely sell vehicles at such a high price
