Goater took over the managerial reins in December following the dismissal of Robert de Pauw just six months into his tenure. Since assuming his role, Goater has guided the team to three victories across all competitions and is gearing up for Saturday's league match against Everton.
When questioned about his aspirations for a permanent role, Goater stated unequivocally, 'Certainly, yes. The answer is basically yes. I'm enjoying it at the same time.' He emphasized the positive atmosphere within the team, noting, 'It's game by game, the players are excited, confident and have smiles on their faces. That's the most important thing, to have players playing the Villa way and enjoying their football.' Goater described himself as 'privileged' to have the interim managerial opportunity and lauded the unwavering support of his coaching staff. 'I'm a people person. I try to encourage players to have the information that will help them to be the best they can,' he elaborated. 'The role itself you can't have without a great support team. The team are absolutely brilliant. I couldn't compliment the support team enough.' Goater clarified that he was not directly involved in managerial decisions, including discussions regarding player retention or acquisition. He acknowledged the numerous contracts expiring this season and the remaining transfer window, stating, 'All of that stuff has really stayed with Lee Billiard in terms of managing that and discussing those. I came in for the 11th hour. Higher-ups are dealing with that. I can't really give any information but they are all exciting players and all valued.
