Aston Villa are reportedly close to signing a new centre-back before the end of the January transfer window. The Midlands club revealed on January 31st that they could be set for a late January transfer window blitz after the sale of Jhon Duran to Al Nassr. They are looking to bolster their defensive line with a new centre-back signing ahead of the February 3rd deadline. The club have been heavily linked with Juan Foyth and Axel Disasi in recent days.
Villa boss Unai Emery has overseen a remarkable turnaround since taking charge in November 2022, guiding the club into contention for a Champions League spot. Despite frustrating draws against Arsenal and West Ham in their previous two fixtures, Villa remain in eighth place, just four points adrift of Manchester City in fourth. The Villains have shown impressive resilience under Emery's leadership and are determined to secure a top-four finish. To strengthen their Champions League hopes, Villa are actively pursuing a new centre-back who can add defensive solidity to the team. The Dutchman has experience playing against similarly leveled opposition, having had starring roles for Villa’s academy side in their EFL Trophy games over Blackpool and Bradford City. While he is yet to make a first-team appearance, he has featured prominently at the academy level, starting all nine of his games across all competitions. However, he has yet to provide a goal contribution in his 765 minutes of action
