Two Liberal MPs have torched the Labor government after it voted in favour of Palestine having its status in the United Nations upgraded.

Two Liberal MPs have torched the Albanese government for"siding with terrorists" in its favourable vote for Palestine at the UN General Assembly , accusing Labor of undermining Australia ’s values.Liberal Senator Dave Sharma said the Coalition would pursue a line of questioning during Budget week into Labor ’s decision to vote in favour of recognising Palestine as qualifying to join the organisation in the proposed capacity.

However, speaking to Sky News Australia on Monday evening, former ambassador to Israel Senator Sharma said the controversial decision to make concessions for Palestine “goes to the heart” of Australian values, as well as Australia’s foreign policy outlook and national interests. “This is not a mainstream Labor government, or mainstream centre-left government, this is a Left-Greens alliance that we’ve got taking positions on issues of our fundamental national interest.”

Senator Sharma was questioned on what Israel’s reaction would be to Australia’s “backflip” by their UN vote. “They have moved the cause of Palestinian statehood along by conducting these mass atrocities,” Mr Sharma said.“It doesn’t do anything to encourage a return to negotiations, it doesn’t call for the release of hostages or anything else. It basically says: ‘Do this again Hamas and you’ll get a state pretty soon’.”
