Orora soared 14.8 per cent and Sonic Healthcare jumped 14.3 per cent on their results, while AMP sank 13.4 per cent.
A series of robust corporate results, combined with evidence that Australia’s labour market is starting to cool, propelled the local sharemarket 0.8 per cent higher on Thursday.from 3.5 per cent in January after 11,500 people lost work, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said. Economists had expected the unemployment rate to hold at 3.5 per cent and employment gains of 20,000.P/ASX 200 jumped 0.8 per cent, or 58.1 points, to 7410.
Sonic Healthcare said its net profit after tax dropped 54 per cent in the first half to $382 million, but increased its interim dividend by 5 per cent to 42¢ a share. The financial services firm declared a final dividend of 2.5¢ a share and statutory net profit after tax of $387 million for the 2022 full year, up from a loss of $252 million in the previous year.
