The US economy has begun the year with a bang, with key data easily exceeding expectations and the January personal spending and income and PCE inflation data bolstered bets that there’s a longer path to higher rates.Oxford Economics: “Though the Fed may welcome recent market developments, it can’t be happy with the data instigating the moves.
TD Securities: “The totality of the recent macro data might sway the Fed away from a 5.25 per cent terminal rate. So while our baseline still looks for a 5.25 per cent terminal rate at the May meeting, we do flag a notable upside risk for a higher terminal rate at 5.75 per cent by the July meeting.”
