At least 10 people are dead and more than 60 are missing in the Mediterranean Sea after two boats became shipwrecked off the coast of Italy.

“A total of 61 people were on the wooden boat, which was full of water. Our crew was able to evacuate 51 people,” the NGO said. The other boat, which was discovered off the coast of Calabria, appeared to have set sail some days ago from a Turkish port carrying Afghani, Iraqi, Syrian and Iranian passengers.“Entire families from Afghanistan are presumed dead. They left from Turkey eight days ago and had taken in water for three or four days,” Ms Mohammadi said.Ms Mohammadi confirmed with survivors there were 66 missing people, among them 26 children.
