The bakery supplies pork pies to the likes of Tesco and Asda
At least 100 workers are at risk of losing their jobs at a Nottingham pork pie factory. Nottinghamshire Live understands as many as 131 employees at Tottle Bakery, located at Queens Drive Industrial Estate, have entered into a redundancy consultation process.
The factory is one one of two sites, along with Riverside Bakery, which is owned by Pork Farms, which supplies pork pies to Tesco and Asda. The firm's parent company, The Compleat Food Group, said it made the decision due to "changing demand in a competitive trading environment". “Following a comprehensive review of cold pie volume at Tottle Bakery, we can confirm that we have entered into a 45-day consultation process over a proposal to reduce headcount across several departments at the site," said a spokesperson. "This is due to changing demand in a competitive trading environment and to ensure we can continue to support the long-term sustainable future of roles at the site.
“We will be working closely with all our employees to support them over the coming weeks, as well as meeting colleagues affected on an individual basis to offer practical support and advice through this period.” Last March, Pork Farms was fined £800,000 after two young employees lost their fingers across its two bakeries.
