Freelance reporter and late editorAt least 146 people are dead after a stampede during Halloween festivities in a popular night life area in South Korea’s capital Seoul today .
Mr Choi Seong-beom said the death toll could rise further and said 13 of the dead had been sent to hospitals, and the bodies of the remaining 46 were still on the streets. According to local media reports, the crush happened after a large number of people rushed to a bar after hearing that a celebrity was there.
Riley, who was visiting from New Zealand, told the Telegraph: “I arrived early about 7.30. We’d been to a few bars. We went to the subway to pick up a friend and saw the first bodies being taken to the ambulance around 11.30. Witnesses described chaotic scenes moments before the stampede, and said police were having trouble maintaining control of the crowds.
The National Fire Agency said in a statement that officials were still trying to determine the exact number of emergency patients.
