An Israeli airstrike on a refugee camp in northern Gaza killed at least 22 people, including seven children, Palestinian medical officials said Saturday. The strike flattened a residential area and destroyed an entire building in the center of Jabaliya refugee camp. Gaza’s health ministry on Saturday said hospitals across Gaza received the bodies of 49 people killed, with 219 wounded over the past 24 hours. The deaths brought the death tally to 42,175 since the war began on October 7 last year, with more than 16,000 children, according to the ministry.The figures came as the Israeli military ordered Palestinians in the northern Gaza Strip to flee their homes and shelters.
The UN World Food Programme said no food aid had entered the north since 1 October, where an estimated 400,000 people are currently trying to survive the relentless onslaught by the IDF. “Parents are reaching out to us, asking for tents, food, safe drinking water, for things like diapers for their babies, who have never known a moment of peace or a time when the fighting has stopped.”
United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon said in a statement: “We remind all actors of their obligations to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and premises, including avoiding combat activities near UNIFIL positions.” Reports from Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency say Israeli warplanes struck the main commercial market street of Nabatieh, a major city in the south of Lebanon.
