A hidden Victorian reservoir would form the facility's visitor entrance
A Nottinghamshire observatory is hoping to draw 20,000 visitors in with a brand new attraction. Plans for the Mansfield and Sutton Astronomical Society have been submitted as part of a multi-million pound plan to construct a state-of-the-art new planetarium and science discovery centre at Sherwood Observatory in Sutton-in-Ashfield.
The reservoir level of the new science discovery centre would comprise of two classrooms, a large flexible exhibition hall, a meeting conference room, store, and lift, providing inclusionary amenities. The first floor pavilion upper deck has been designed as transparent and would offer glimpses of activity within the building, with two flexible meeting rooms to the southern aspect that can be opened into one space, and a café events space to the northern side.
Planetarium shows would take place between the school visits and group visits, with a maximum of two shows on a given day depending on the demand. The facility would also host members evenings for 30-35 people.
