Just days after a dominant win to become a two-division champion, Teofimo Lopez called time on his career live on TV. 9WWOS
Yet the Brooklyn native has decided to move on, telling ESPN's Max Kellerman he wants to walk away from the sport.
"Right now I have a lot of ideas for the sport of boxing. I really can't do that If I'm always in the gym preparing for an upcoming fight. I'm really just focusing on that task right now." Lopez's interaction with the ESPN host prompted a sharp rebuke from Kambosos on social media, who called out Kellerman for "really poor journalism".
The announcement was viewed with skepticism by the boxing world, with most believing this move, like most premature retirement announcements, are mostly about money.
