Australian shoppers have taken to social media to express their frustration over the pricing of a new cake range at Coles.
Customers have taken aim at Coles over the"absurd" price of a new cake range, despite the supermarket giant advertising the desserts as a"delicious and affordable" option.
“We all know what it is like to spend hours in the kitchen when this time could be better spent celebrating with family and friends, which is why we are excited to offer great new cake options to help customers enjoy what matters most." "I saw this cake and was like 'this is so cute', it had like a really yummy centre, I was like 'okay cool, how much is it', had a look at the price and it was $29," she said. The Koala cake is a double-layered vanilla sponge, filled with jam and topped with sprinkles and edible decorations, Coles notes. Many users were quick to agree the price was a"rip off", and the standard chocolate mud cake priced at $6.40 was a much more affordable option.
"It's just a sponge cake with jam - probably dry af. only $29 cos it's 'fancy' and aimed at parents," a third added.
