The co-founder of heavily backed start-up Deputy is moving to the board as a new US-based CEO takes over.

“The impact of Deputy can be so large – there’s 18 million shift workers in the United States alone – but you don’t get to be the most dominant market leader in the US by being here in Australia,” he told“A lot of great companies have been built by having great scalers come in, like Eric Schmidt at Google or Jeff Weiner at LinkedIn. And now it’s Silvija at Deputy.”
Born and raised in Croatia under Communist rule, she immigrated to the US alone at the age of 17 after being awarded a Rotary Club scholarship to learn English following the Balkan wars. “As I was growing up, I watched my family members, all of which are shift workers, manage the challenges that come along with being a shift worker,” Ms Martincevic said.After her studies, she spent a decade in the investment management industry backing women- and minority-owned businesses.
