Australia will not have a singles player in the second week at Wimbledon for the first time since 2018 after Chris O'Connell was beaten by Chris Eubanks.
Chris O'Connell could not find a way past American Chris Eubanks, losing in three tie-break sets at Wimbledon.abc.net.au/news/aussie-wimbledon-singles-challenge-ends-chris-oconnell-exit/102580338Australia's challenge for singles glory at Wimbledon has disintegrated before the first week is out — but last-man-standing Chris O'Connell was proud of his efforts despite being blitzed at SW19.
The last, somewhat surprising survivor of the 10 Australians who entered the main draw, O'Connell again produced an admirable performance in his difficult stop-start week, finding himself in action for the fifth successive day. The real difficulty, though, lay in the monster serve of 27-year-old Eubanks, a 2.01m-tall player from Atlanta whose rise up the rankings this season has seen him becoming increasingly feted in the US, with even Hollywood superstar Jamie Foxx now backing him.
