While the former treasurer’s Bondi Partners started as an advisory shop, it has increasingly made its way into capital markets and investments.
North American investment funds with an eye on Austal could find themselves facing competition from an unlikely quarter – former treasurer Joe Hockey, and his high-profile advisory firm Bondi Partners.
Joe Hockey, pictured at the Australian ambassador’s residence in 2020, has built a consultancy specialising in national security.
The chairman of Bondi Partners, for one thing, is Richard Spencer, who served as US Navy secretary until November 2019. Mike Rogers, who retired from the Navy as a four-star admiral in 2018, is also an advisor. Both would be more than familiar with Austal, which holds key US defence supply contracts and operates a major shipbuilding facility in Alabama.
