Australia won the Fifth Test in Sydney by six wickets on day three against India , securing a 3-1 series victory. Fast bowler Scott Boland took 6-45 as India were bowled out for 157, adding just 16 runs to their overnight score. Despite captain Jasprit Bumrah's injury preventing him from bowling, India took three wickets before lunch. However, Travis Head and Beau Webster led Australia to their target of 162 in 27 overs, reclaiming the Border-Gavaskar Trophy .
This victory also qualifies Pat Cummins' side for the World Test Championship final at Lord's in June, where they will face South Africa. Australia made a quick start to their run chase thanks to opener Sam Konstas' 22 runs off 17 deliveries. However, Konstas' dismissal triggered a wobble, with Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith also falling. Smith's dismissal for four left him one run short of 10,000 Test runs. Nevertheless, Head and Webster added 58 runs to take Australia to victory, with debutant Webster hitting the winning runs off Washington Sundar
