Australia is set to face another heatwave this week after recording its hottest spring on record. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed temperatures were 2.08 degrees Celsius above the 1961–1990 average, with all months contributing to the record. Spring was not only exceptionally warm but also saw above-average rainfall.

Another heatwave is predicted across Australia this week, following the hottest spring on record. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) confirms that spring temperatures were 2.08 degrees Celsius above the baseline 1961-1990 average, making it the second season to breach the 2.5C mark since 1910. Spring 2024 was 0.05C warmer than the 2020 record and 1C warmer than any spring from last century.

The season was also marked by above-average rainfall, with 92mm recorded, 28% above the national average, largely due to record falls in northern Western Australia. This record warmth comes after a record hot August, making 2024 the year with the highest year-to-date anomaly since 1910, at 1.42C above the base period
