Australia’s courting of India has finally been met with mutual interest which explains why six ministers and the PM will fly there in just two weeks.
Australia’s former top diplomat Peter Varghese has urged Australian companies to shake off their distrust of working in India as the Prime Minister and a swag of senior ministers visit the world’s second most populous country over the next two weeks.
“The stars are aligning in the relationship in ways we haven’t seen before,” Mr Varghese, who was the secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade between 2012 and 2016, said. Both countries signed the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement in 2022, and are now negotiating a more comprehensive trade agreement to support the stepping up of the economic relationship.“We’ve had a number of Indian ministers come to visit, which is relatively unusual,” Mr Varghese said.Among visiting dignitaries have been Indian External Affairs Minister S.
“That’s not a problem as long as universities don’t lower their entry standards or we don’t go completely overboard in liberalising the work rights of students,” Mr Varghese, who is also the chancellor of the University of Queensland, said.
