A 34-year-old Australian influencer has been charged with torture and other serious offenses after allegedly drugging a baby and filming her suffering for online donations.
An Australian influencer has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including torture, after allegedly drugging a baby and filming her in distress for online donations. The 34-year-old woman, from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, is accused of administering unauthorized prescription and pharmacy medicines to the infant between August and October last year.
Police allege she then filmed the baby while she was in 'immense distress and pain' and posted the footage online to solicit monetary donations. It is claimed that the woman raised $60,000 (£30,500) through GoFundMe donations. The child was initially hospitalized for a genuine serious health condition, according to Brisbane Police. However, it is alleged that the woman disregarded medical advice and went to great lengths to obtain unauthorized medications, including old medications prescribed to another person in the home, which she then administered to the baby.Health professionals raised concerns after the girl was admitted to Brisbane Hospital in October suffering a serious medical episode. A police investigation was promptly launched, leading to the woman's arrest in the Brisbane suburb of Underwood on Thursday morning. She has been charged with five counts of administering poison with intent to harm, three counts of preparation to commit crimes with dangerous things, and one count each of torture, making child exploitation material, and fraud. In a statement, police said: 'While the child was being subject to immense distress and pain, it is alleged the woman filmed and posted videos of the child. 'It is alleged the content produced exploited the child and was used to entice monetary donations and online followers.' Police have stated that the baby is known to the woman but have not confirmed if it was her daughter. Detective Inspector Paul Dalton called the alleged offenses 'abhorrent' and emphasized the police's commitment to removing the child from harm and holding the offender accountable. The woman was due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today
