More Australians believe colonisation was on the whole a good thing for indigenous people than it was a bad thing, although most also believe Aboriginal people have suffered intergenerational trauma from settlement.

Polling by Resolve obtained by Sky News put recent controversial comments by No campaigner and Indigenous Affairs spokeswoman Jacinta Nampijinpa Price that colonisation had been a good thing for indigenous people.

The full 100-page Resolve polling report also found that a majority of 58 per cent of Australians are in favour of constitutional recognition of Indigenous people without a Voice necessarily being attached with 27 per cent against and 15 per cent undecided.Among Yes voters support for constitutional recognition: 83 per cent .

The Resolve polling report found: “The ongoing uplift in the No Vote has coincided with growing awareness and understanding of the referendum vote and proposal ... The inescapable conclusion is that the more Australians have seen and heard of this debate, and the more they have engaged, the more they have been turned off the proposition."

In terms of whether corporate involvement was seen as “appropriate”, 29 per cent agreed, 44 per cent disagreed and 26 per cent were unsure. When it came to qualitative research the pollster did on people’s attitudes to politics and the Voice, there was good and bad news for both Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton
