The family of former Australian Winter Olympian bobsledder Duncan Pugh has been left “heartbroken and simply lost for words” after his sudden passing at the age of 48. 7NEWS

bobsledder Duncan Pugh has been left “heartbroken and simply lost for words” after his sudden passing at the age of 48.

Pugh competed at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, but was forced to watch from the sidelines when a concussion suffered in a crash during the two-man race also ruled him out for the four-man event. He and pilot Jeremy Rolleston were both knocked out when their sled flipped, sending them all the way down the course upside down.Coming from a background in hurdles, it didn’t take long for Pugh to reach bobsledding’s pinnacle, having only taken up the sport in 2007.

Pugh had been a teacher at Newman College in Perth for the past 17 years. Acting school principal Dr Lucie McCrory notified parents and guardians of the passing in a letter.Getty Images
