Australia's classification board will now be able to advise movie-goers about a much wider range of content, from very mild slapstick violence to mental health themes to strong animal cruelty.

To provide more information to people about what they are about to watch, the federal government is altering the current system.Most people said they wanted more details about why a movie was given a specific rating, and that the reasons for those decisions should be "modernised" to reflect community sensitivities.
For G-rated movies, new consumer advice includes very mild supernatural themes, very mild animated violence, very mild slapstick violence and very mild mental health themes. High-impact bullying themes, high-impact drug references and high-impact sexual themes are some of the new consumer advice warnings for R18+ films.
"This updated advice will ensure there are no surprises and help adults make informed decisions about the content that they, and those in their care, consume," Ms Rowland said.
