Lowy Institute Public Opinion and Foreign Policy Director Ryan Neelam says Australians have had a “readjustment” in how they view China as diplomatic relations thaw between the two nations.
“In the past three years, Australia’s attitudes towards China plummeted in the context of a souring Australia-China relationship,” he told Sky News Australia.
“But this year, as the diplomatic relationship has thawed, we also see a readjustment of how Australians view China, but that’s not a full-scale reassessment of things. “Compared to five years ago, trust, confidence, and warmth towards China and its leader Xi Jinping still remain very low.”
