Australians have been warned to look out for scammers pretending to be from myGov following a sharp increase in reported cases. 7NEWS
that reports of myGov scams were up 160 per cent in January compared with December 2022.
“To submit the application electronically please fill out the form. Once completed you will be asked to confirm that the information in the document is correct,” the email read.Scamwatch In a text version of the scam a consumer was told: “We attempted to deposit your refund but we had issue with your banking information.”MyGov scams often involve consumers being told they are owed money by the government.The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission told 7NEWS.com.au the intent behind these scams was to “harvest login credentials to facilitate identity takeover and commit fraud”.
