Avondale neighbors near the corner of Dancy Street and Roosevelt Boulevard are fed up with the number of crashes from drivers speeding and losing control.

“It’s like a speedway. We’ve had police officers out and they’ve caught people going as high as 60 mph,” Ashley Lewis said.Neighbors said they don’t mind when people use Dancy Street as a shortcut between Roosevelt Blvd and Park Street, but they do mind when motorists ignore the 30 mph speed limit.“I have a couple of kids that ride bikes on this street.

The latest crash happened last week. An owner of a home at the corner of Dancy Street and Roosevelt Boulevard took preventative measures into their own hands.“Neighbors put boulders in their yard just to prevent cars from going into their house. Because it happens so frequently,” Lewis said. “I’ve only lived here six days and there has been a crash four of the six days that I have been here,” Robin Allard said.

Neighbors said police and city officials are fully aware of the problem, but they urge drivers to change their driving habits to keep everyone safe.
