After severe flooding on New Year's Day, insurance provider AXA has agreed to provide temporary housing for over 400 residents evacuated from Meadow Mill apartment block in Stockport. The River Tame burst its banks, inundating the building and leaving residents stranded without electricity or running water.
An insurance provider has agreed to provide housing for flooded out residents of Meadow Mill in Stockport , Stockport Council has confirmed. The apartment block saw severe flooding on New Year's Day after the River Tame burst its banks and inundated the car park and lower floors.
Stockport Council had previously written a letter laying out concerns about the ongoing circumstances for residents. In the letter, the council said that "there has been little/no consideration for the ongoing plight of the residents affected". Cllr Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council, said: “I’m pleased that AXA has finally stepped up and done the right thing for residents. This has been an incredibly difficult time for those affected and ensuring they have somewhere safe and warm to stay is welcome news ahead of residents returning to their homes safely as soon as possible."
