The Honest Men were made to battle hard at East End Park as they maintained their unbeaten start to the league season.
Dylan Watret's first professional goal ensured Ayr maintained their unbeaten start to the Championship season this afternoon.
Scott Brown had to make an enforced change with Scott McMann dropping out through injury and that meant a first taste of action for summer signing Mikey Devlin at centre half. New loan signings Ryan Howley and Alfie Bavidge also made the bench. United hauled themselves level with a fine strike from Watret, who crashed home a low drive from the edge of the box after Dunfermline had failed to clear their lines. And Ayr could have forged ahead soon after when skipper Ben Dempsey fired inches over the top from 30 yards.
United handed Bavidge his debut at the interval as Jamie Murphy made way, with the young Dons frontman playing off the left hand side.
