A convenience store in Irvine which has been undergoing refurbishment has being given a premises licence, despite major concerns about over-provision in the community.Owner Hamza Ahmed’s agent said: “We envisage a local convenience store with a range of groceries and the premises are in an area of housing. They will have a range of groceries and will be embedded in the community.
Chair Eleanor Collier said: “My main concern is that it is a very small shop and what percentage of the shop will be alcohol-related, what percentage would be groceries?”The chair added that it looked like an off-licence application rather than one for a convenience store.
