Abbie Humphries was just three hours old when she was snatched from her cot by a woman pretending to be a nurse
A woman who was infamously kidnapped as a newborn from her hospital cot has died after a battle with a brain tumour, three decades on. Abbie Humphries, whose abduction at just three hours old from the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham made headlines worldwide, died aged 30.
Her husband Karl announced her passing in a heartfelt Facebook post: "Our beautiful Abbie peacefully passed away yesterday, surrounded by loved ones. She fought so hard with so much strength and grace for over four years and can finally rest. We will be celebrating her life on Saturday 14 December from 2pm at the Sundgren house in Whenuapai. Please feel free to join us. Abbie was so strong, and her infectious smile will forever remain in our hearts.
The story of her kidnapping inspired the 2020 drama called 'The Secrets She Keeps', which was only then, when she was 26 years old, that Abbie fully grasped the gravity of her own disappearance. Media coverage played a pivotal role in the case, and 16 days post-abduction, Abbie was found at a property in Wollaton.
