When tragedy struck a residential building in Jabal al-Weibdeh, Jordan there were thought to be few survivors. Yet this little girl, named Malak, has been called ‘an icon of hope and life’ after her discovery in the rubble.

Her mother has revealed she had ‘a gut feeling she was alive’, adding that ‘words cannot describe her happiness’ after she was right.A huge search was launched after around 25 people were said to be inside. In an emotional video, Malak is seen covered in dust, but breathing, as she is pulled out of the debris. After being handed to another rescuer, she was rushed to hospital.
