Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Amid the widespread success and popularity of Baby Reindeer, Fiona Harvey's interview with Piers Morgan contained several revelations that countered the narrative of the show. Written and created by Richard Gadd, Baby Reindeer is based on a true story of his own experiences with a stalker.
Harvey insisted that she'd been forced to go public because internet sleuths tracked her down and issued death threats to her. So she doesn't think she has a choice but to engage in this matter, a situation she'd been forced into. Now, she appeared on Morgan's show hoping that he would provide her with a platform and a fair hearing to say her piece. Her main intention was to counter specific aspects of Baby Reindeer that people had told her about.
8 Fiona Harvey Denied Most Details In Baby Reindeer She Called The Show A Work Of Fiction and Hyperbole Beyond the larger allegation of stalking, Harvey also denied several details on Baby Reindeer. Most importantly, she said Gadd never offered her a free drink or paid for her. She corroborated that they met at a pub called the Holy Arms where Gadd worked, but she asserted that he was the one who interrupted a conversation she was engaged in to first approach her.
Claims about the veracity of the story are not much of a concern, as both Gadd and Netflix have acknowledged that Baby Reindeer is a loosely adapted and fictionalized version of these events. An added complication in such defamation allegations is that the show never explicitly named Harvey, nor had the intention of disclosing her identity. In fact, Gadd issued a statement urging viewers not to speculate on the real identities of the show's characters.
She maintained that she only ever met Gadd 2-3 times more than a decade ago, and that she only knew him for a maximum of 2-3 months. When Morgan later challenged her on this, she said she could not have met Gadd more than five or six times in total. For Harvey, then, Gadd must be "psychotic" and is "mentally unwell" himself.
Harvey also revealed that she has four different phones, justifying it by saying she likes to keep communicating with different people on different devices. While she attempted to justify these things as normal, these admissions raised suspicion about the truth of her claims. Although she kept denying sending 41,000 emails, she also defended the idea of doing that, saying that it doesn't necessarily mean it would be stalking.
In Baby Reindeer, Donny sees evidence of her previous involvement in harassment and instantly realizes he's got a massive problem on his hands.
